Foundation for pale skin :S

4:26 pm - 03/16/2008
Hello girlies,

I'm desperate to get to the bottom of my pale skin foundation problem. I need something super pale with great coverage and staying power. Hah, asking too much?! I've tried almost everything at MAC (NC15) but it just doesn't seem to want to stay on. Has anyone had any problems with this? MAC goes on beautifully and after about an hour, it just gets really shiny. No amount of powder seems to keep it in place and the weird thing is, i don;t have greasy skin! I haven't used  a primer in a while because i found that it altered the colour of the foundation. I have used sponges, have MAC and other base brushes, tried mineral foundations etc...

If anyone has any suggestions on other products or had similar problems, please let me know.  Thank you, Daze (X)

Not at all! Ramble away, ma dear :)
I'll give that a bash too but i'll try the mac first. I have a shop close but if it doesn't work, i'll go for the Face Atelier foundation. I'm always more than willing to take the advice of someone who has similar issues with foundation! You'll know the frustration.
I'm scottish, so very surprised there isn't a range out there for our transparent skin!

Thank you!

I deliberately went for studio tech a few months back but the sales assistant in Glasgow gave me studio fix instead. I figured since i hadn't used it before, i'd give it a whirl. Tried it with everything i had (out of desperation - you know that one!) and threw it onto the mahoosive pile of make up. Luckily, i do special effects make up, so nothing is ever lost.

Studio Tech and face and body are the only two i have yet to try but was reluctant after studio fix fluid disaster. It seemed much darker than our usual NC15 but loved the staying power it had. Saldy, it made me look a bit orange - not a good look for me.

Bugger it, i'll go and buy it all and see how it goes. I'm desperate to get back to flawless skin. I've been using Max factor lasting performance 100 for about 13 years and end up having to go back to it but its just too pink-based.

Thank you honey, you're a wee gem (x)

Hahaha, breakouts are the one thing i forgot to mention! It had a weird disinfectant smell too. Not too sure what that was all about but the coverage was great. Its just a shame i had that two-tone look!

If you haven't already tried Aromaleigh (, I highly recommend it. Their shades are great for pale skin, I find it's not shiny and it stays on but doesn't go all orangey like some other brands do.

Thank you, honey, i will check it out. Its really strange how the UK holds so many darker coloured base products but we never see the sun!

Cover FX have a really light foundation, I'm super pale and they are great. They have creams and powders, and you can find them on Sephora. I looooove them.
konnie_lingus 17th-Mar-2008 06:42 pm (UTC)
Thanks, i'll check them out :) Only thing is, i live in the UK and Sephora don;t seem to ship here. Its a shame because i'm sure they did have the odd store over here but disappeared just after i discovered them.
It looks like i'll be able to get it in Harvey Nicols though :) The coverage looks fantastic too !

Prescriptives Custom Blend
konnie_lingus 17th-Mar-2008 06:46 pm (UTC)
Funny you should say that. I was talking to my friend about this last night and she said her mum swears by Prescriptives. I looked into them a while back but took the MAC option instead - because the colour match it 100% perfect, shame about the formulas! I don't know where i can get hold of it in the UK but i'll look into that too. Thank you :)

i use cosmedicine tinted moisturizer. it stays on all day, all night etc etc

i really only have red areas on my skin and it works great in covering that up!

i use the lightest one they have, but i'm not sure it would be light enough for you. i might since it blends super well!

i would go to sephora and have someone help you. that's what i did and granted i was there for like 2 hours trying EVERYTHING ( i'm pale too ) i found something that i LOVEE

I'll have a look for it but sadly, we're not lucky enough to have a Sephora in the UK :( You guys are so lucky over there because everything is so much cheaper + the outlet stores! We don;t have anything near that over here.
I'm extra pale though, almost white with a hint of yellow (not all scottish people are pale blue!)

hi fellow pale girl! There's some good foundation ideas in the pale skin community, if you haven't tried there yet. I'm not a huge fan of MAC's foundations, unfortunately although I do like their concealer (the one in the little pot! I'm an NC15 also!). Of all their fuondations, I like Studio Tech the best. Currently I'm loving Bare Escentuals foundation in Fair (until I get my color, I have to add a bit of Chenille eye shadow to pale it out more). Everyday Minerals is nice, and are generous with samples. I also have liked Prescriptives foundations in the past - I still have three Custom Blends, and those are awesome. They blend the foundation to match you EXACTLY and they can add in luminizers, moisture, etc. They also do Custom powder, concealer, and lip gloss. You might also want to check out stila's foundation.

You know, i never even thought about looking into a pale skin community! I'll check it out. Though everyone has given me some great ideas on this thread.
dr_kitten_lady suggested Studio Tech too, so i think since i'll be able to get hold of it easily, i'll give MAc one last chance to get back into my good books :D
I did try Bare Escentuals but it just didn't look right on me but the eyeshadow tip is genius. I still have it, so i'll give it a shot, thank you :)

I think i'll try Prescriptives after MAC, as a custom blend is probably the most sensible option. It would certainly save me a lot of money! Glasgow are getting a Harvey Nics soon, so i'll either have to wait for it to open or travel to London. Its some effort being pale, huh?

Thank you so much for all your advice. (X)

Give Studio Tech a shot. I'm not a huge MAC foundation fan (but the eye shadows and lippie stuff? totally!), but I do like the concealer.

Bare Escentuals lightest shade is too dark for me when I'm at my palest - one full Chenille in a large foundation, shook super well makes all the difference for me.

You know, i may as well. I'm not either and it seems a bit contradictory coming in here, complaining about their foundations and leaving with the intent on buying another but i've heard a lot of good things about Studio Tech. I have a good friend who's a make up artist and she lets me use her discount from time to time. This is the only reason i'm going to give them that last shot!

You know what its like though. You find a product that works for a while and one day, it just stops (must be the 7 year renewal!)
I'm always looking for the perfect foundation and will certainly try the ones suggested on here.

Thank you honey, you have been lovely! :) X

I am also on the lookout for a great foundation for pale skin. Thank you for making this post, and for all of the great suggestions! ^_^ Luminous Silk Foundation by Giorgio Armani in 0 and 1 were recommended to me. It has the right creamy white shade (0) to mix with the others and has won quite a few beauty awards. It's also available online, so that makes it easy to get. The downside is that it's extremelyexpensive. $58 USD is very pricey, especially since GA recommends buying 2 shades to mix. I haven't broken down and bought it yet, but when/if I do, I will let you know how it fared. My skin is not only ghostly white and translucent, but extremely sensitive as well. If Luminous Silk doesn't make my face look like the surface of the moon after a few applications and looks natural, it will be worth the money to me.

May I add that you are very beautiful, Konnie? Your hair looks great with your lovely skin. ^_^
