Pur minerals vs. bare minerals?

9:13 pm - 01/13/2008
Hey there! :)

I've got a question for all of you... I am just now trying mineral make up. I bought pur minerals, which is supposed to be a 4 in 1 powder type of thing. It's working alright... but by the middle of the day my skin is SO oily and it all shows through. Is there something you all put underneath the mineral make up? Like a special lotion to keep the oils from coming out?? Anything of that sort?

Also, for those of you who have tried different types of mineral make up, any suggestion of the brands? Is "pur" really that good? Or are Bare Minerals better?

Basically... I am totally new to all of this... so any and all advice is appreciated!

Thank you! :)

You want to battle oily skin with face wash, toners, and lotions, not makeup. Makeup is something to go on your skin, not to fix it. However - you may want to look into foundation bases, or a skin prep type lotion that goes on before foundation. Smashbox has them for specific skin types. Not sure if they'd help so research before buying. www.makeupalley.com is an aaawwwwsome website.

I tried Bare Minerals and did not like it. It's very expensive AND it contains something in it I believe is called bismuth that irritates people with sensitive skin. Try Everday Minerals 'www.everdayminerals.com' < that should be it. CHEAPER but of similar quality.

Between Bare Minerals and Pur Minerals, I preferred Pur Minerals. Bare Minerals has an ingredient in it that is irritating to a lot of people's skin but I also found that it was more likely to turn orange and slide off my face by the middle of the day. Pur Minerals was moderately better but I don't like the color selection that they have at all and it was still a little irritating (read: itchy).

I think there are better brands than those out there. Everyday Minerals is one that a lot of people have had good luck with and Alima is another brand that I found to be pretty good, too.

The best so far, at least for me, has been Aromaleigh. They have a couple different formulations, one of which is for oily skin, and which does a nice job of controlling oil and staying fresh during the day. Plus, they have a really good selection of shades and it's the only brand I haven't had any irritation issues from - and my skin is not really all that sensitive to begin with.

Everyone's skin is different - I'd recommend samples from the various brands, assuming that they have them available, and seeing if they have color, coverage and staying power you're looking for.

Good luck!

Haha, I love it that EVERYONE always suggests Everyday Minerals. :b This community should be called "we love EDM!" ;)

That said, I'm a huge Bare Escentuals fan, and I haven't heard anything about Pur minerals... so sorry, but I can't give any advice! I do know, however, that BE doesn't irritate THAT many people... otherwise, I feel like they'd take out the bismuth oxychloride (which is just a mineral, btw, not some weird thing). I have somewhat sensitive skin and it doesn't do a thing to my skin!

I agree that it would help to use a toner or something else to help with oil control.

I love Bare Minerals. My skin actually looks better if I wear it regularly. (As, looks better even when I'm NOT wearing it.) I've never tried any other mineral makeup (well except a drugstore brand which was crap), but I'm not giving up a makeup that helps my skin!

I've never used pur minerals but i do love Bare Minerals. People claim its expensive but the starter kit is actually an incredible value. You get three brushes you need to apply the cosmetics and not same like sample size brush the real thing. You get two shades to try. Mine came with Skin-rev upper but i think they switch the primer to prime time. Both products are awesome. Lastly you get a powder that adds "warmth" to your face its not quite a bronzer because it doesnt leave you looking orange. And it has Mineral Veil a finishing powder which has very good ratings. I think the mineral veil might help you with the oil problem, my tzone doesn't get oily when i wear bare minerals, but otherwise it will. I think you need to change your cleansing rountine to really solve the oily skin problem.

Sorry if i sounded like an infomerial but i really love BE. You can try BE in person so to that may help you decide. Not everyone has that reaction with the bismuth mineral.

if you don't like it sephora has a great return policy.

Awesome! Thank you so much for all your advice!

And actually... any recomendations for the oily issue? Any specific products?

Thanks again! :)

try using a makeup primer before u put the makeup on. something like smashbox's photofinish primer. it works really well

well, it depends in pur minerals has preservatives in it. if i does then bare minerals is better. i love bare minerals anyway

use clay masks more often to curb the oil, but for everday just get some blotting papers. they are a wonder easy fix
